Ronald D. Aliano

Ron was born in Bristol, CT, the son of John and Louise Aliano. After graduating Bristol Central High School Ron earned his BA at Central Connecticut State University. Immediately after graduating he returned to Bristol Central High School as an honors English teacher. While working he continued his education and earned a Master’s from UCONN and eventually earned an honorary doctorate from UCONN as well.

In 1972 Ron became a Norwich resident. That same year, out of a strong desire to provide excellent patient care for the residents of Eastern Connecticut, Ron purchased the City Cab Company and the Norwich Ambulance Company and founded Professional Ambulance Service of Norwich, Inc., now known as American Ambulance Service, Inc. Fourteen years later Ron formed the American Wharf Development Corporation. This corporation was responsible for the development of Hollyhock Island, a parcel of land at the head of the Thames River, which is now known as the Marina at American Wharf, a world-class boating facility. In 1996 American Professional Education Services was formed and it has become the largest American Heart Association training center in New England and it is also a well-respected medical training center.

Extremely active in civic affairs, over the years Ron served in various capacities on the Norwich Community Development Corporation, Norwich Harbor Management Commission, Board of Directors of the Eliza Huntington Home, Integrated Day Charter School Foundation, State of Connecticut Harbor Management Association, Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Connecticut Emergency Medical Services Council and the Connecticut Advisory Commission on Emergency Medical Services.
Ron was also instrumental in forming the Norwich 4th of July Committee which returned Independence Day Fireworks to Norwich Harbor.

Additionally Ron has been the recipient of numerous awards over the years including the 1988 Norwich Citizen of the Year, 1988 UCONN Alumni Distinguished Citizen, 2000 Connecticut Business Ethics Awards, 2001 Merit Award for Public Education Eastern Connecticut EMS Council, 2002 Outstanding Leadership Award CT Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America, 2005 Italian of the Year Award and the 2007 Three Rivers Foundation honoree.
